Club Events

Non-members are very welcome to come along to an event or two before deciding to join the club,  “try before you buy” as it were. Come along and find out how friendly and welcoming we are at any one of the events below.

Our Friday night rides (every Friday, 7:30pm) at the trail continue into summer. Lights are no longer needed for 2/3 laps in the evenings now. If it gets dark before 3 laps then we just head for the pub a little sooner!

Don't forget that any events marked with Novice friendly event are novice friendly!

Trail Building

We've two trail building days planned for June. We're going to be cracking on with the new improved triangle section. We've made a start already, but we're hoping to really push on with it over the weekend.

These days are subject to weather conditions.

Please double check the events page before heading down.

As always, you'll find details of all the above events and many more on our events page.

Ride Reports

We did quite a lot of riding in May and the first week of June! If you would like to find out more about what we got up to please see the event reports for:

A quick update on some rides that we are working on: Malverns, Long Myndd, miow miow (Middle of Wales, Middle of Week), Castle Combe, Purbeck and North Wales (Aug bank holiday).

Add those to the upcoming Bisley, Clee Hill, Cleeve Hill, Wyre Forest, Forest of Dean, Lake District, Spirthill, Solstice Downs ride and the Wansdyke Epic – we've got quite a lot of rides to fit into the second half of 2011!

MTB Training Courses

We're now down to our last 7 free spaces on our training courses.

With two different course programmes – Introduction to Mountain Biking and Trail Riding Skills – we can help you get more out of your mountain bike whether you’re a total beginner or a regular rider looking to improve. Please see our training page for further details and to book your place on one of our courses.

Ladies-Only Ride

After the success of our previous ladies-only days, Jodie (MB Swindon’s Women’s Officer) is running another Ladies Only ride (click here for the last ride report) at The Croft Trail on July 9th between 11am and 2pm. Ladies are very welcome on any of our rides, not just ladies-only ones!

Swindon Bike Week and Bike Carnival

Swindon Bike Week is happening from 19th to 26th of June 2011 with events every day. See the CTC website for more information.

MB Swindon are holding a “take a lap” session with a barbeque on Friday 24th June. This is at the Croft Trail. We operate our Friday night BBQs on a "burn what ya brung" basis, so you'll need to bring your own food along for our BBQ expert to cook to perfection.

The Swindon Bike Carnival takes place on Saturday 2nd July between 10am and 4pm at Lydiard Park in West Swindon. For more information see the CTC website.

And finally…

This time last year we were heading towards our 50th member (who arrived in July). As I sit here writing this we've got 149 members. We're planning on doing something special for our 200th member – assuming of course that we get there!

How have we achieved so much in so little time? Apart from being very active and having lots of organised rides we think its down to the collective warmness and friendliness of the club staff and members. We like to think of ourselves as very being welcoming to new and returning riders. We don't take things too seriously as a club, and no one ever gets left behind on a ride. Our events team may enter races, but only for fun (and to see how many pro teams we can beat!). In addition we don't have any "members only" snobbery. No closed forums, no "members only" e-mails.

It could also just be because we offer great discounts for a very low joining fee!

Either way, if you've joined then it's great to have you on board, If you haven't yet got round to it then what are you waiting for?

Thanks for your continued support
