Antonio will be the main DH rider for the team racing at loads of the regional events including Forest of Dean, UK Bike Park, Aston Hill and the Pearce Cycles races. See our gravity events list.
With most of the races being local (Quantocks, Forest of Dean, Swinley Forest) it will be great to see your support and please have a go yourself – you are welcome to enter as “MB Swindon” still! And if you show you’re good enough, you could make the team next year. There’ll be several friendly faces at almost any given event to give tips and moral support – the more times we see “MB Swindon” on the entry list the better! Races are often just as much about the social as the race itself.
Finally all the team riders have already been enthusiastic and vocal about getting more gravity based rides and events going on so if you want to suggest something or join on a trip just let us know, we’re expecting several uplift days and trips to some more technically challenging ride locations. First one being the Mid-week Uplift at our sponsor – Muc-Off UK Bike Park, there’s discounted rates for MBSwindon members and there’s been loads of places taken already.
Photos from Sleepless in the saddle 2012. We entered one team of 4 (Gary Lee, Jerome Crametz, John Speed and Tom Stickland). We came 22nd out of 75 teams in the sport category.
Like all the twenty four hour events of 2012 it rained. Lap times slipped from 50 minutes to one hour and ten. Parts of the route became a slippery mess. I remember a bike that was too clogged to ride and too heavy to carry so pushing was the only option. I slipped back by half a step each time I pushed on the bike. It was very frustrating.
The route was adjusted overnight to cut out some of the really muddy sections and conditions did improve somewhat.
The Kona / Vito Sport sponsored Bristol Oktoberfest is a 12 hour relay race on the Saturday. It is held in the Ashton Court estate near the Clifton suspension bridge in Bristol and uses a route that’s approximately 6 miles long.
We’ll be entering as many teams as we can fill – last year we had singles and teams of two, three and four. If you want to take part then email phil at mbswindon dot co dot uk. Everyone is welcome to take part. You can also discuss the event on our forum here.
