Unlikely to be Flat Ride

Sorry everyone – tonight’s ride has been cancelled.

Graham will lead this week’s midweek ride, which will start from Coate Water and head out onto the Ridgeway.

Make sure you bring food and drink as it might still be a hot one, after this weekend’s glorious whether. But don’t forget your coat in case it takes a turn for the worse. Lights are also advisable in case of any delays which means you’ll be heading home in the dark.

Terms and Conditions

  • Always wear a helmet : you are not permitted to ride any of the bikes unless you are wearing a helmet.
  • Familiarise yourself with the bike : remember all bikes behave differently, so take your time to become familiar with the bike before tackling technical trails.
  • Don’t push the limits : the demo day is designed to give you an opportunity to feel how the bike you are interested in buying, performs in a real off road environment. The bike must be treated with respect and ridden only in the manner in which it has been designed. KEEP BOTH WHEELS IN CONTACT WITH THE GROUND AT ALL TIMES – RIDE WITHIN YOUR ABILITIES
  • Stick to the trail : Croft Country Park has miles of way-marked cross country bike trails. PLEASE STICK TO THEM and stay off foot paths. Trust us, the ride is much more rewarding if you do.
  • Ask a member of staff : Hargroves Cycles staff, along with bicycle manufacturer representatives are on hand to answer any questions you might have. Please let them help you set up the suspension for the bike you choose to ride BEFORE you set off. This will provide a much better ride quality and also resist damaging the bike. Make sure you are riding an appropriate sized bike and don’t exceed the maximum seat height.

You will be required to hand in your Driving License/Passport and matching credit card along with a sign in/waiver form. We will store these items in a locked money safe hidden away from public view behind locked doors. Your Driving License/Passport and security credit card is kept under our full responsibility. While in your possession, the bike you are riding is your responsibility. If you allow anybody else to ride the cycle, that too is your responsibility until the cycle has been returned. It is expected to get muddy and dirty, so have fun. However, it is your responsibility to pay for any damage resulting from miss use. A snapped chain or puncture is not considered to be miss use. Puncture repair facilities are available at base camp or if you are riding with a guide, they will be carrying essential tools. Any injury sustained when out on a bike, is solely your responsibility. Hargroves Cycles Ltd, its staff or the manufacturers supplying bikes on the day, may not be held responsible.

Another FoD day

2011_12_28 Wednesday FOD 006The Forest of Dean offers something for Mountain Bikers of all abilities and tastes from family trails to downhill runs. The club will be going there to check out the trails and the excellent cafe. This is not a led ride as such, but a chance to come along and ride the trails of your choice with other club members.

We will be meeting at the cafe at the Pedalabikeaway Cycle Centre for a coffee and chat. The plan is then for everybody to split into groups to enjoy riding at their own pace and ability. We will then meet back up for lunch at the cafe, which serves a big range of hot food and cake. After lunch more riding for those that want to.

Erlestoke 2015

Note: This event, originally scheduled for May, has now been moved to September.

Erlestoke remains an MBSwindon firm favourite and we have teams enter every year. Maybe it’s the chance to ride on a sErlestoke Tim Rose 05uper course only open for this event or maybe it’s the great atmosphere. Whatever it is, it comes highly recommended by those who have ‘been there and done that’!

The course is over 60% fun single track, and offers a challenging seven mile-lap which remains fast and flowing in nearly all-weather conditions.

There’s a choice of 12 hour (12pm-12am) and 6 hour (1pm-7pm) races plus categories for solo, pairs, teams of 4 including male, female, mixed and singlespeed.

Erlestoke Kristian 02If you are interested, let us know and we can team you up, manage the entry process with the organisers and tell you what you need to do, when you need to pay etc. All you need to do at this stage is email races@mbswindon.co.uk info@mbswindon.co.uk by 27th March and tell us what event you’re interested in and the type of team you’d like to be in (‘competitive’, ‘quite competitive’ or ‘just for fun’). If you already have a group of friends to make a team, all the better.

12-hour event

Entries cost £30 for solo, £55 for pair (£27.50 each) or £100 for team (£25 each for 4) for 12 hour event.

6-hour event

Entries cost £25 for solo, £50 for pair (£25 each) or £90 for team (£22.50 each for 4) for 6 hour event.

Swinley Forest Guided Day out – 25-05-2014

Mike West from Swinley Forest Mountain Bike club is going to take us on a tour of the trails with a bit of off piste chucked in.

MBSwindon’s Gary Palmer says: “I’ve been round Swinley with Mike before so I know it will be a great day out, the girls are going to be there as well so I feel a bit of a bake off coming on, if we can’t beat them on the trails surely we can beat them at the baking 🙂

Mike and the Swinley guys like to start early so lets get there ready to start for 10.00am and have a great fun packed day”

On your approach into Bracknell, look out for signs to the Look Out discovery centre, or it is opposite Coral Reef swimming pool.  £2 for 4 hours parking

Erlestoke 12 race 2014 from SPAM Biking

Erlestoke Tim Rose 06 yogaWe really enjoyed the Erlestoke 12 race in 2013 (and 2012 and 2011). It’s back for 2014 and at the same great venue; a wooded hill on land owned by the MOD near Salisbury plain.

There’s a choice of 12 hour and 6 hour races plus categories for solo, pairs, teams of 4 including male, female, mixed and singlespeed (makes sense). Erlestoke 12 website (not updated for 2014 yet).

If you want to take part then let us know via the contact page or on the Facebook event page.

Cannock Chase Ride

This ride is being hosted by Paul Broadrick and his mates from the Cannock area.  They will be leading a 2-3 hour ride including plenty of natural singletrack in the Cannock Chase area.  The club will be represented by Tom Scott, who will act as back-marker and first aider.  This is not a massively technical ride but demands a certain level of fitness and stamina and therefore is not considered ‘novice friendly’.

If you’re still feeling fit after that then you may wish to have a ride round the local trail centre as well.  There is a £3 charge for parking at the forest centre. Park at the top of the car park by ‘Go Ape’.
