Sunday Morning Dip (hopefully not!)

Steve Jeans leads this semi-urban ride exploring the waterways in and around Swindon. Meet at Mouldon Hill Country Park Car Park for a 9.30am start.
We will start with a circuit round Mouldon lake then head towards Sparcells Forest and from there we will make our way to Roughmoor lake. From Roughmoor lake we will head towards Coate Water taking in Lydiard lake, Wichelstowe lake and canal, and passing through the Croft Trail.
From there, we’ll enter Coate Water via Broome Manor Lane where we will have a stop.
Once refuelled we will complete a circuit of Coate Water and head towards the lawns where – you guessed it – there are another two lakes! We will then head home taking the Old Town railway cycle path, Mannington rec, and the Moredon cycle route.
The ride will cover approximately 25 miles, using cycle paths and single tracks with minimal road riding. Although an urban ride it does not always feel like it and there will be some mud. Depending on the weather the route could be slippery in places. We will be out 2.5 to 3hrs. Please note that there is a height limit at Mouldon Hill Car Park barrier.

Midweek Ride 20th September

Tom Scott will lead this week’s Wednesday night ride. As a pre-cursor to the urban season we will be riding out to Lydiard Park and Moulden Hill using the old railway tracks, and taking in some urban singletrack along the way.
As usual, the midweek ride is novice-friendly and all are welcome. The route will be about 20 miles and should take around 2 hours to complete.
You will need lights, a drink and a spare tube or repair kit. Meet at Croft Trail ready for a 7.00pm start, or, if you fancy an extra bit of riding, arrive by 6.30 to join Tom on a lap of Croft Trail before the main ride starts.

Going back to the routes of the club we will be hosting an event at the trail from 10:00 until 14:00, you can pop over whenever suits you and join us for a lap or two followed by cup of something hot and a bit of something sweet. It’s a chance to chat bikes, components and routes. We’ll light the fire so you can keep warm and toast marshmallows for a bit of energy.

As it’s in the run-up to Christmas, why not decorate your bike with a bit of tinsel or go for the full on fancy dress.

We look forward to seeing you all there.

Open day at the Croft Trail. This is a relaxed social event at the trail and an ideal opportunity to come along and find out what the club is all about. We’ll be leading regular laps round the trail to show you what we’ve been up to.

The event runs from 10am until 4pm, just turn up any time.

Throughout the day there’ll be the following:

  • guided rides round the trail
  • meet the club
  • barbeque plus ice cream van on site all day
  • chat about and get advice on riding, bikes, training, events and the Croft Trail
  • Wiltshire Police will be available to do bike marking from 12:00 – 14:00, so if you want to get your bike registered on the national database this is a great time to get it done for free

Take a look at photos from our last open day in April 2012.

Ridgeway Epic

Tom Scott will be leading this non-novice, non-trail centre, non-technical slog. We will start with a lap of Croft Trail, then ride out to Coate, Foxhill, Wantage.

Riders on the Ridgeway

After a cafe break, we’ll ride back to Foxhill, continuing to Liddington, Ogbourne, Barbury, and stop at Avebury for a second break. Then it’s Hackpen, back to Barbury, and down Ladder Lane to return to Croft.
There will be a lot of climbing so bring your best legs. Please ensure you have spare bits for your bike and some rations and water.
If you want to do half the ride that’s fine, we can sort out timings nearer the time.

Not so urban round

Tom Scott will be leading another variant of the Wednesday “urban” ride, which in the summer are distinctly less urban and decidedly more trail.

This week’s Wednesday Ride will start from Croft and will include a lap of the excellent Croft Mountain Bike Trail, followed by a 2 hour bike ride, aiming to get back to Croft for 9.30.

The end of the ride will be in darkness so lights are required.  Bring whatever food and drink you may need as this will be an out of town ride.
