Another FoD day

2011_12_28 Wednesday FOD 006The Forest of Dean offers something for Mountain Bikers of all abilities and tastes from family trails to downhill runs. The club will be going there to check out the trails and the excellent cafe. This is not a led ride as such, but a chance to come along and ride the trails of your choice with other club members.

We will be meeting at the cafe at the Pedalabikeaway Cycle Centre for a coffee and chat. The plan is then for everybody to split into groups to enjoy riding at their own pace and ability. We will then meet back up for lunch at the cafe, which serves a big range of hot food and cake. After lunch more riding for those that want to.

Erlestoke 2015

Note: This event, originally scheduled for May, has now been moved to September.

Erlestoke remains an MBSwindon firm favourite and we have teams enter every year. Maybe it’s the chance to ride on a sErlestoke Tim Rose 05uper course only open for this event or maybe it’s the great atmosphere. Whatever it is, it comes highly recommended by those who have ‘been there and done that’!

The course is over 60% fun single track, and offers a challenging seven mile-lap which remains fast and flowing in nearly all-weather conditions.

There’s a choice of 12 hour (12pm-12am) and 6 hour (1pm-7pm) races plus categories for solo, pairs, teams of 4 including male, female, mixed and singlespeed.

Erlestoke Kristian 02If you are interested, let us know and we can team you up, manage the entry process with the organisers and tell you what you need to do, when you need to pay etc. All you need to do at this stage is email races@mbswindon.co.uk info@mbswindon.co.uk by 27th March and tell us what event you’re interested in and the type of team you’d like to be in (‘competitive’, ‘quite competitive’ or ‘just for fun’). If you already have a group of friends to make a team, all the better.

12-hour event

Entries cost £30 for solo, £55 for pair (£27.50 each) or £100 for team (£25 each for 4) for 12 hour event.

6-hour event

Entries cost £25 for solo, £50 for pair (£25 each) or £90 for team (£22.50 each for 4) for 6 hour event.

Ladies ‘Skylark’ Ride

Debbie Davies will lead this club ride. It’s novice friendly but there will be some faster downward pointing stretches and a few long steeper climbs , but nothing that a nice walk can’t conquer, and as usual , no one will be left behind.

While this is not a technical ride, you will need a proper mountain bike and suitable mountain bike tyres.

Some lovely scenery is expected, skylark song if we are lucky ,and lots of chat so please come and join us .

Bring adequate water and some snacks as there is no cafe stop. I’m sure there will be cake at the car park though!

Open day at the Croft Trail. This is a relaxed social event at the trail and an ideal opportunity to come along and find out what the club is all about. We’ll be leading regular laps round the trail to show you what we’ve been up to.

The event runs from 10am until 4pm, just turn up any time.

Throughout the day there’ll be the following:

  • guided rides round the trail
  • meet the club
  • barbeque plus ice cream van on site all day
  • chat about and get advice on riding, bikes, training, events and the Croft Trail
  • Wiltshire Police will be available to do bike marking from 12:00 – 14:00, so if you want to get your bike registered on the national database this is a great time to get it done for free

Take a look at photos from our last open day in April 2012.

Bristol Bikefest 2015

The club is usually well represented at Bikefest, and we hope this year will be no exception!
