Recovery Ride

Christmas: Peace on Earth and goodwill… Fine food and gifts… Time with your loved ones…

or…

Hours slumped in front of the TV… Eating turkey leftovers for a week… Relatives who stay too long…

Feel the need for a restorative bike ride? Graham Burgess is here to help! The Recovery Ride is an MB Swindon tradition – a bit of fresh air and exercise for those who feel a bit jaded by the holidays. Twenty miles of wet and muddy riding? Just what the doctor ordered!

The Recovery Ride is open to all, and a great way to finish your riding for 2018. Meet at the Patriots Arms in Chiseldon, ready for a 10.00am start. We have permission to use the car park.

Ladies Forest Christmas Meet

Debbie, from MB Swindon, would like to invite you to an informal social ride at the Pedalabikeaway trail centre, taking in the family friendly and non technical Green graded trail.

We will meet outside the centres café at 9.45 for a 10am depart. We have invited many other Ladies mountain bike groups to join us to create an easy going pre Christmas ride suitable for all fitness levels and riding abilities. It will be at a casual pace with the emphasis most definitely on social and chat.

On returning to the café it is hoped that we will have mince pies and mulled wine to end our event.

The afternoon will be up to individuals, feel free to ride the blue and red trails, repeat the family green trail or maybe just chat over a coffee. None of the trails will be officially guided and therefore it is suggested that you ride to a level you are comfortable with and that suit your abilities. We hope you will meet some like minded riders and enjoy all the Forest of Dean trails have to offer.

Please note that there are car park charges, £7 for the day but this is a Forestry Commission run car park, so refer to their website for full parking information. Pay machine at the car park

Dress code: Tinsel, fairy light, and a club jersey if you have one.

UPDATE Friday 15 December 18:50

After last weekend’s snow the family cycle trail still has obstacles across it, so the plan for the day will need to be changed.

The below is an update from Debbie:

“Ladies this will make a difference to plans tomorrow , it looks as though the green trail is a no go . So the plan of a social chat ride first has probably gone out the window. We may have to hit the blue trail and Launchpad first instead …Sorry for the change of plan …lunch will still be on but the rest of the morning will probably be an open play session”

Xmas 2016 Recovery Ride

The Xmas Recovery Ride has become an MB Swindon tradition, and Tom Scott will be leading this year’s ride, starting at Barbury Castle.

Burn off those sweeties, shed a few pounds and forget about the invading/visiting in-laws for a few hours in good company on the downs.

The route will be calculated using the formula m = n x p / q squared where m = miles, n = number of people who turn up, p = puddings consumed over the festive period and q = quality street sweets produced for the ride leader.

Pedal , Pies and Winter Warmers

Novice friendly and broken riders without bikes most welcome!

Debbie Davies and Kat Ratcliffe would like to have your company for our second Croft Trail Christmas meet. 10.30am to 1pm

Call in, do a few laps of the trail and join us for mince pies, mulled wine and hot chocolate.

This is not a guided ride, so you can do as much or as little as you wish. If you don’t fancy riding just come down for a chat and a warming drink.

The more the merrier

MBSwindon Christmas party 2014

Christmas party hats and beard

Well, believe it or not I heard “Fairytale of New York” the other day which must mean it’s almost time for the MB Swindon Christmas do.

This year we’ll be dining at Mackenzies in Old Town, £26.95 per person for a 3 course meal. Email chris@mbswindon.co.uk for menu and payment details. As always payment confirms your place and all payments must be made by 12th December at the very latest please.

Always a good night this, a good chance to socialise and see what everyone looks like when they’re not covered in mud! Get booked up folks.

Recovery Ride

In line with MB Swindon tradition, we will be running the ever popular Christmas Recovery Ride on the 27th December 2013. This is a great way to burn off some of the Christmas excesses and get yourself out of the house.

The route will take in some of our local ‘must ride’ locations, including the descent down Four mile clump, the climb up the radio mast and Rickety Bridge.

We will not be passing any shops or pubs so please bring a drink and snacks. There will be a couple of hills to climb but nothing too bad. As always, we will wait for anyone who finds them too hard. There’s no shame in walking. Besides, it’s a good opportunity for a chat!

View the route: OS Map GPX – right-click and select “Save As” to save to your computer.
