Club ride: Wellow

Wellow signpost

Lead by one of our qualified mountain bike instructors, Chris, this is a ride around some great natural trails that surround Wellow, near Bath.

The route will be “interesting” but not overly technical. It is therefore an ideal next step for those riders who have previously enjoyed one of our “novice friendly” rides and/or have some fitness and mountain biking experience.

Chris (and other experienced riders and/or instructors) will be on hand to offer any advice/guidance on the more technical sections.

Distance will be around 15 miles at a relaxed pace as it’s not the flattest area! There are a few steep climbs but these can be walked up.

We’ll stop at a very traditional pub (think of a room with some barrels of cider in the corner) about halfway round. They don’t sell food but are happy for us to eat our own sarnies. Soft drinks & tea are available if you don’t fancy the local cider.

We’ll meet in Wellow’s free car park which is well sign-posted within the village.

    Hello

I am trying to find local moutain bike groups/clubs. I am fairly novice, and last weekend competed in the Wiggle Enduro 6. My friend and i came third in the ladies pairs catagory and i would very much like to develop my skills and find other like minded people ! There seems to be suprisingly very little in the way of clubs in the Forest of Dean, which is where i live, unless they are rather secretive ! I am also a runner and i have recently taken up bikejor (mountain biking with a dog !) My dog an i have recently qualified for the world championships in Germany later this year, another reason i want to improve my cycling skills ! I have just read in my local paper that there is going to be a mountain bike enduro in the Forest in September and so i hope to find out more and have a go !

Look forward to hearing from someone !

    regards

    Kim

  2. Hi Kim,

    Congratulations on all your successes!

I don’t know of a FOD MTB group – I presume you’ve checked all the posters in the PedalABikeAway Cafe? Last time I was there I noticed loads of posters, but didn’t read them all.

Regarding improving your skills, why not consider doing both of our training courses? They’re very cost-effective (much cheaper than the commercial courses as we don’t get paid) and am sure you’ll learn loads. See http://www.mbswindon.co.uk/training for full details.

As for the Wellow ride, you’re more than welcome to come on two or three rides as our guest. So if you’re not doing anything on Saturday, come on down!
