Minehead Weekend 2019

Minehead Weekend 2019

Graham Burgess has confirmed availability for Minehead accommodation so the dates will be Friday 4th – Sunday 6th October.

Based on 15 people going cost per person will be £35.00 for the two nights. We are reasonably confident we will get that many, however, to set the stall out: only 10 confirmed will push price to £50.00 per person so please be prepared for that. Naturally, if we get more than 15 the price will come down (or we can use surplus for a provisions shop).

The house holds 22 max based on shared rooms with bunk beds (there are also a couple of twins for the lovers amongst you – first come first served 😜). The accommodation is “no frills” but clean and has a well equipped kitchen, and is just a five minute walk from the town centre. There is on-street parking – we’ve been lucky with spaces so far. You can put bikes inside if you don’t have them secured in vehicles.

Agenda:
Friday – optional Quantocks ride. Good climbs, brilliant descents and great views from the top across to Wales on a clear day and maybe some wild ponies. A pint to finish for use of the pub carpark.

Saturday – a short drive over to Lynmouth via Porlock Hill for a Lynton & Lynmouth route with more big climbs and great descents and a refreshment stop at Watersmeet National Trust Cafe (one of my favourite places). A ride with stunning scenery, including the Valley of the Rocks and the brilliant Victorian Cliff Railway. Should be time for a train ride at the end for those wanting a go…

Sunday – a big ride from the door up the cliffside path for a couple of great descents (and climbs) including the beautiful and mystical Horner Woods before going vertical again to the mighty Dunkery Beacon, the highest point in the South West. It’s worth all the pain for a hooner of a descent full of rocky loveliness. One more uppy bit then its down all the way back to the digs. Bit of a theme here going here, big climbs, big descents and more stunning views! Last year we could barely stand at the summit due to howling wind. 😂

I can book a table in local pub same as last year for one or both nights once we know numbers.

The rides are not really novice friendly, but open to anyone who is up for big rides and a challenge….

Hard cash of £35.00 secures a place – Contact Graham on the Facebook Group or email a committee member. No refunds unless you are able to find a replacement (or we are over the min 15 needed to keep cost at £35.00 per person). Digs are provisionally held but I need to pay deposit soon…

The last two years have been a lot of fun, so don’t miss out!
