Martin Watkin will be leading our annual ‘Christmas Recovery’ ride from Barbury Castle. The aim is to burn off the festive excesses, taking in the best winter tracks that remain open to us in December. Targeting rewarding off road descents that can be reached by road, and also staying high on the Ridgeway spine to appreciate the views and avoid the worst of the mud.
The ride will be 18-23 miles long, with 500-700m of climbing. The pace will be steady, and apart from a few tricky ruts, will contain nothing too technical. Everyone who can manage this distance is welcome. Please bear in mind the likely weather conditions, and bring anything you might need such as spare tubes, waterproofs etc. Though the terrain is not too challenging, it may be slippery and one climb is 16%. Also bear in mind that 20 miles may feel longer in cold or windy weather
