Michael Duller will lead this ride. Starting from Coate Water, the ride will head off up to Chiseldon using local cycle paths. We will then climb up to the Ridgeway past the radio mast – this is a long, hard climb!
We then explore some of the not-so-well-used tracks around upper Upham, including a steep, non-technical descent followed by a steep gravel climb.
As we head west towards the M4, we have a steep, chalky climb followed by a long, rooty descent. We then have a road climb to cross over the M4 and another grassy climb over to Foxhill and the Ridgeway.
Descending the Ridgeway path we head back to Coate water via country lanes and another steep road climb.
There are no cafes stop planned, so please bring your own drinks and snacks. Please also consider bringing spare tubes and a tool kit, just in case.
This ride is not classified as ‘Novice Friendly’ because of the 20 mile distance and the 1600ft of climbing involved. However, the pace will be steady and we will stop at the top and bottom of climbs and descents to give people time to recover. Riders wanting to challenge themselves to push on beyond the typical novice ride are welcome to come along.
Arrive at Coate Water around 9.45 ready for a 10.00am start.
